Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 is almost here – and fans should brace themselves for a potentially big character death.
That’s according to the creators of the popular Netflix show, aka the Duffer brothers, who said TV line (opens in new tab) that audiences should be “concerned” for the safety of the show’s main cast.
Stranger Things season 4 will come to an end when volume 2 hits Netflix in July. The next installment of the 80s-inspired supernatural horror show will only include two episodes, but fans are sure to get their money’s worth. The finale, in particular, is a feature film in its own right, with the ninth episode of the season running at nearly two and a half hours.
Given the dangerous situations the show’s main cast faced for nearly four seasons, fans are clearly worried that someone is going to bite the dust at the end of season four. It’s unclear whether any characters’ deaths will come at the hands of Vecna ββor something else, but many viewers are concerned for the well-being of Joe Keery’s Steve Harington. The nanny-turned-heartthrob was supposed to be killed off in Stranger Things season 1, but after a change of heart, the Duffer brothers chose to keep him alive.
With Steve originally supposedly dead three seasons ago, will the Duffers finally decide to bring the ax down on him in the Season 4 finale? Naturally, the duo weren’t giving anything away anyway when they spoke to TVLine. However, the Duffer brothers have suggested that fans should be wary of all their favorite characters, teasing the prospect that one or several cast members might not make it to the show’s fifth and final season.
Asked if the public should prepare for Steve’s death, Matt Duffer said: “Everyone is always worried about Steve. I love that. We always have to defeat Steve somehow, so certainly the Demobats have done that job very well this time. season.”
“It feels wrong to say ‘excited,’ but I’m excited that people are concerned,” added Ross Duffer. “And them he must be worried going to the final two episodes [of Season 4] – for everybody.”
Anyone else stocking up boxes of tissues in case someone dies? Well, you don’t have to do that just yet. Analysis: Who is most likely to die in the Stranger Things season four finale?
Based on the Duffers’ provocative tease, it would be much quicker to list the characters that will not die during the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things.
For starters, Eleven is nailed to fight one more day. As Sam Owens told her in Episode 4, “Without you, we can’t win this war.” Given that she is the only superpowered person who can stand up to Vecna, and the candidate most likely to end the Upside Down for good, Eleven should survive the Season 4 finale.
We suspect that Jim Hopper and Max Mayfield will survive as well. Both characters went through a much recently, and they’ve been on the brink of death at various points – Hopper in the season 3 finale and Max in season 4 episode 4. Lucas Sinclair – Hopper and Max’s love interest on the series – will make it out alive.
We also can’t see the Duffer brothers killing any of the original children. Of course, killing off any of Mike, Dustin, and Will would be a huge shock and would certainly create fierce online debate among fans of the series. As unexpected as it is, however, we think the Duffers would be wrong to eliminate one or more of these characters. They started that in the first season of Stranger Things – it’s only fair that everyone sees that.
As for everyone else, we’re of the opinion that the rest of the squad is fair game. Steve, Nancy, Jonathan, Robin, Eddie, Doctor Brenner and Murray are all prime candidates for the cut to varying degrees. Some of their deaths would be much harsher than others β Nancy and Steve would be particularly hard to bear. But if the Duffer brothers and Netflix want fans to remember Season 4 as the show’s most mature and horrible entry, they have kill someone significant. Place your bets on who it will be now.
