We’re not too far from the expected release date of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and we have new leaks on the most crucial parts of these folding phones: the hinges and creases.
We’ll start with the most recent leak, which is a tweet from the generally reliable whistleblower. ice universe (opens in new tab). He says the Z Flip 4’s crease will be shallower than the Z Flip 3’s, and that “most people will be pleased” with the improvement.
This follows a previous tweet (opens in new tab) from the same source showing some of the cases that were developed for the Z Flip 4: they reveal that the hinge is now also more compact, offering another design improvement over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Not to be left out, it looks like a similar aesthetic update is also in line for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. A few weeks ago we heard that the crease would also be less prominent on this foldable phone, so Samsung is improving the implementation of this technology in all aspects.
As for the hinge, we are once again indebted to ice universe (opens in new tab) for a tweet a few days ago that showed a more compact hinge on the Z Fold 4 compared to the Z Fold 3 – the same sort of improvement being talked about for the Z Flip 4.
Apparently the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has “changed a lot” according to the insider. We don’t have to wait long to find out: Samsung hasn’t confirmed the phones’ existence or any release dates, but it’s believed the handsets will be unveiled in August.
Analysis: a steady rate of progress
Foldable phones will always improve in terms of form and function: just look at how smartphones in general have progressed over the past decade. Technology, materials, manufacturing processes improve over time, and this leads to phones that look better and function more reliably.
It looks like we’ll see more of this progression with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 in August. We’ve been pretty impressed with what we’ve seen last year with these foldables, and with Samsung’s years of experience, it’s going to be hard to ask Apple and Google to match them with their own foldable devices.
Having less noticeable creases and more compact hinges would, of course, be welcome this time around – as long as there are no issues with reliability – but for foldables to really break into the mainstream, the prices of these phones need to drop even further. Therein lies the real challenge for Samsung.
If you can’t wait another two months to see these phones for real, you might be interested in all the leaks and rumors we’ve heard so far: we now have full spec leaks for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, so you can decide ahead of time if one of these foldables is the right phone upgrade for you.
