Oppo has launched its latest Oppo A77 phone in India quietly. The phone was launched at the price of Rs. 15,499.
This is an offline-centric phone, which means you won’t find the best chipset available in the budget phone. And this Oppo phone won’t compete with the likes of Realme or Redmi in the market. The result of this is that the phone looks outdated, even though it is a brand new model on the market.
Oppo A77: prices and availability
Oppo A77 comes in a single variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Its price is Rs. 15,499 in India.
The phone is available for purchase from the Oppo store now (opens in new tab). It will soon be available on Flipkart and Amazon, but availability on e-commerce platforms has not been officially announced. Soon, the phone will also be available in all offline stores.
Oppo A77: main features and specifications
Oppo A77 is powered by Mediatek Helio G35 SoC. This may seem like a joke, but it’s not. The phone is actually powered by a 2-year budget SoC. It is not at all comparable with other phones in the segment. Even phones below Rs. 10,000 have better chipsets like Mediatek Helio G85, Mediatek Helio G88 and even Snapdragon 680.
But what doesn’t look like 2020 is the phone’s design. It comes with the latest Oppo device design language, with the square sides and camera array similar to other recent Oppo devices.
Talking about the screen, this phone comes with a 6.56-inch HD+ LCD screen, also with a 60Hz refresh rate. No other phone launched this year at this price point comes with an HD+ display in this budget.
Coming to the cameras, the phone comes with a dual camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. And there’s an 8MP selfie camera on the front.
The phone is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. 33W charging is one of the only features on this phone that goes along with other phones in this budget. Another feature better than other phones is the presence of a stereo speaker setup.
Why does this phone look like a 2020 phone?
It looks like a typical phone Oppo used to release in the past. But Oppo currently has much better phones in the segment with similar prices. Like Oppo K10 and Oppo F19. Oppo still has similar features in a lower priced phone than this phone, Oppo A16 and Oppo A57.
But the reason this phone feels like a 2020 phone is that it’s a phone meant to be sold in retail stores rather than online. Oppo’s A series has always been a series of phones aimed at the offline market. And phones in this series often come with mediocre specs for the price. In any case, we can’t expect much from the A-series phones. This phone reminds us that not much has changed with Oppo with its A-series smartphones and its offline-centric pricing.
