The new Amazon Kindle Scribe is a big change to the retail giant’s ereader lineup, bringing the biggest screen and most storage we’ve ever seen to a Kindle, plus, for the first time, a note-taking pen.
Interested fans, however, might be put off by the ereader’s $339 / £329 starting price, which goes even higher if you want more storage or the Premium pen with more note-taking features.
When the Amazon Kindle Scribe was first announced, its release date wasn’t actually mentioned, but shortly after the launch event, Amazon confirmed the availability window via the ereader’s official store listing. (opens in new tab). And there’s bad news for those looking for a cheaper device.
Kindle Scribe will officially go on sale on November 30th, more than two months after its announcement. But in these two months, two big business opportunities are happening, which means that Amazon’s new ereader won’t be available at a discount on any of them.
Two big months for sales
On October 11th and 12th, the second Prime Day sales event of the year will take place, which we’re calling Prime Day 2. It remains to be seen how big this is for third-party manufacturers, but Amazon is almost certain to discount a little. their own products – in fact, early sales are already doing just that.
But the biggest sales event of the year is after that – Black Friday deals are a popular way to get pre-Christmas gadgets for less, but this year, that Friday is November 25th. -gadget sales event before Black Friday takes on that mantle, is on November 28th.
Amazon’s choice for this date is probably not a coincidence, as it wouldn’t launch a new tech product when everyone else is spending their money on other gadgets – particularly if it wasn’t on sale at a discount to its PVP.
Instead, the Kindle Scribe will likely be released as a holiday product, so people can buy it as a gift or choose one to get ready for the holidays.
When the device goes on sale or is closer to launch, we’ll test the gadget to see where it ranks on our list of the best Kindles. But if you’re really interested, you can already pre-order the thing to make sure you get it right away.
