Listening to music on Alexa is a popular feature on the device. Customers, on average, ask Alexa to play over 21.6 million songs every day. It turns out that the preference for music created by independent artists has increased significantly. On Amazon Prime Music, average monthly music streams from independent artists increased by 37% over the same period.
And now, Amazon has announced the launch of Alexa Originals, an exclusive selection of new music from four independent artists from India. This initiative not only gives these artists the opportunity to reach millions of Alexa users in India, but also offers a new entertainment experience to customers.
The 4 Indie Music Artists from India on Alexa
Alexa Originals were composed and sung by indie music artists: Lisa Mishra, singer-songwriter especially known for her reprise versions of Bollywood songs. Gulraj Singh, music director and singer known for creating smooth melodies. Vibha Saraf, talented songwriter and Bollywood playback singer. Diesby, an R&B artist who is a versatile musician known for singing in 3 languages. Gulraj Singh’s instrumental track has a mix of ambient electronic sounds and authentic, ethnic instruments like Esraj, Bouzouki, Saz, Charango and Mandolin.
Amazon announced that users can now listen to ‘Besabar’ by Lisa Mishra, ‘Bikhre’ by Vibha Saraf, ‘Saathi’ and an instrumental track by Gulraj Singh and ‘Downtown’ by Diesby as part of Alexa Originals. Each Alexa Original song was created around the theme of relationships and includes songs ranging from soul music, pop and R&B.
How to achieve this?
The inaugural edition of Alexa Originals is co-powered by HP. Customers can listen to all music for free on the Amazon shopping app (Android only), Echo smart speakers, Alexa app for smartphones, and built-in Alexa devices such as HP laptops.
It’s easy to get Amazon Original on your device. Just tap the microphone icon and ask ‘Alexa, start originals’. Otherwise, users can request a specific song by saying, say, ‘Alexa, start Bikhre from Originals’.
For the record, Alexa voice service is available in India in English, Hindi and Hinglish. Last year, Amazon featured the voice of Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan on Alexa and allowed customers to ask for life stories from him, a selection of his father’s poems, tongue twisters, motivational quotes and more.
